Why, why, why?? Part deux.

Why does my bedroom still look like this? We moved in more than a month ago. Those are just boxes full of frustration.

Boil It

Why am I so annoyed that our town's water supply is apparently contaminated with e.Coli bacteria? I had to boil some water on my efficient electric stove and send my husband a text message asking him to bring home a few jugs of bottled water from the supermarket. I have to supervise the kids' toothbrushing a little more closely. Hopefully they can pinpoint the source and have it cleaned up in a matter of a few days.

We are so spoiled.

Practice Run

In a couple of weeks I'm going to start making desserts and pastries for a friend's restaurant. Here's the first of my test biscotti, made with orange zest and bittersweet chocolate. They will be prettier and more uniform in shape, but they taste amazing. I can't wait to have one with coffee in the morning!

Why, why, why??

Why can't I get to bed at a reasonable hour? I swear it was just 9:38 and I was folding laundry on the couch, yawning my head off and thinking how delicious it would feel to be in bed before 10pm. And now here it is, almost tomorrow.

Cheeky Boy

I know, he needs a haircut. We did that once and it was more than awful. Quite honestly, I'd rather people wonder if he's a girl than go through that anytime soon. Yes, I am a wuss.

The Old Fashioned Way

This is the first paper and ink book I've read in over a year. It's by an author from my hometown, and is set there. It's a bittersweet read. It evokes memories and, at the same time, reminds me of how much I have forgotten. "Home" feels very far away.

Cake

DSC00694

The last time I made cupcakes, I made a batch of egg free ones for my little allergic boy. I wrapped them all separately and put them in the freezer, planning to take one out and frost it for him when I made cakes for other occasions, so he wouldn't be left out. He wasn't interested in the the first one I offered him about 6 weeks ago, but this morning was a different story. I think the chocolate frosting helped.

It just made me so darned happy to see him enjoy that cupcake!

Leaving Day

You'll notice that the sun is out. I couldn't bring myself to photograph how beautiful the ocean was. The big kids played on the beach and swam in the surf while I packed and loaded the car. At least they got to enjoy the last morning. It was a lovely house and fantastic location. Maybe next year the weather will cooperate and the littlest member of our family will be a better vacation participant.

Shopping Day

Trying to decide on a dress for a friend's wedding this month. I was actually shopping by myself and needed more than the mirror. It was quite an effective way of obtaining a different perspective.

Oh, and I didn't feel bad about spending a vacation day at the mall. It coincided with a massive thunderstorm and torrential rain.

Amongst the Rabble

IMG_9495

Today was awards day at school and he walked away with certificates for chorus, mathematics, honor roll, and homework. (They gave an award to kids who completed their homework all year. I kinda thought that you were supposed to do that ... )

I am so proud of my boy. As well as being crazy smart, he's a hard worker and puts his all into everything he does.
